XR2 Wrecker's Yard!
by Catriona Rochford

Warning! The following article contains pictures which may be distressing to some readers. If you are an XR2 driver, and you finished 2003 with a big hole in your wallet, never mind your car, you might just want to look away now.

Ok, that's the disclaimer over with; onto the article! Towards the end of the 2003 season, the XR2s gained a reputation for being incredibly destructive, with several cars almost completely written off in the last two meetings, and several more gaining significant panel damage from various incidents. As myself and Mike have gained quite a collection of photos showing wrecked XR2s, we felt that it'd be interesting to put them all together here, and see just how much carnage there was!

Sadly at least half of these photos show cars belonging to members of our forum, especially John Findlay, who suffered from chronic bad luck ever since he bought his new car. Amazingly all the drivers who we have heard from intend to return this year - good on you all for not letting the bent panels put you off!

John Findlay's new car started its racing career by losing a wheel on June 1st
The lost wheel caused an unscheduled trip across the kerbs, which ended in a split petrol tank

Findlay's car came off worst in the accident, though, having been hit from behind by Peter Cruickshank

And some more damage... ouch!
Peter Cruickshank's car also suffered following the collision with Findlay

Andy Allan was another victim
Ian Cowie Racing must go through a lot of right-side doors in a season - this time Alastair Hart is the victim
Some more damage on Hart's car
Henry Lowson gets a bit too close to the tyres at Taylor's
And this is the result...
Barry Holmes ended his season on an expensive note after a head-on collision with Richard Reed
Holmes was also hit from behind in the accident
Reed's car didn't look a lot better than Holmes'
